For the museum project, you will create a presentation that demonstrates the historical development of an idea through two different humanities disciplines. For part 1, do the following:

1. Choose an idea.

2. Choose a historical period.

3. Write a thesis.

4. Create an outline.

The historical period you choose should be specific and rather short (you cannot choose "the history of humans" or "history since the year 100 CE"). And the humanities must both directly address the idea. For example, if you were to choose "the divine right of kings," you might compare the political writings of people like Algernon Sidney and John Locke and the religious writings of people like John Knox and John Milton. Or one of your explore the divine right of kings through the artwork of the late 1600s and early 1700s. Other ideas might include political individualism, feminism, controversies over divine texts, evolution in philosophy and religion, the nature of "truth" in historical accounts, the rhetoric of nationalism, and how history is portrayed as linear or cyclical. Or any other idea that you’ve seen emerge from this class.

Once you have your thesis, construct a rough outline of the content you would like to include. Then visit at least three virtual museums. Curate materials that support your project from both of the humanities you will be using. Create a file for each section of your outline, and store .jpg images of the images or text that you intend to use. (No less than two images/texts for each section. No more than four.)

Put both your thesis and outline in a single Word document or .pdf file, and indicate what sort of project you will be constructing: research paper, video, etc. Upload this file along with each file of curated material. This will complete your Museum Project Part 1. If you have questions about your thesis, how to write a thesis, or how to curate your project, consult your instructor before proceeding to Museum Project Part 2.

The Museum Project Part 2: Creating the Project

After you have received feedback on Research Project Part 2, you will create your presentation. Once you have completed it, upload it here for feedback. After you receive feedback, upload your presentation to the discussion board in 6.3.

Here, again, are general guidelines for each presentation:

Research Paper: 10-12 pages double-spaced, 12 pt. font. Your paper should follow standard research paper guidelines, starting with your Introduction and thesis. Then build a careful argument to support and explain each aspect of your project, transitioning smoothly from one topic to another (Cite your sources throughout. Complete citations should be listed in a bibliography at the end.)

Video: 8-10 minutes of content. Videos should be high quality, using a video editing software such as iMovie or Windows MovieMaker. (Sources should be cited throughout. Complete citations should be listed on the last slide/frame or accompany the submission as a Word document.)

Animated PowerPoint or Prezi: 8-10 minutes of content. You may lecture over the presentation or include a musical soundtrack (preferably without lyrics, unless the humanities discipline you choose is music and your content calls for it). If you choose to use music, the submission must include a narrative which explains the connections and conclusions that the reader should draw from your PowerPoint or Prezi. In other words, you need to write out the narration that you might speak as you present the slides. (Sources should be cited throughout. Complete citations should be listed on the last slide/frame.)
