The process of globalisation has involved a massive increase in the consumption of fossil fuels. Discuss why this is so and critically reflect on how modern management might respond to the consequences of this increase in consumption.
You are expected to use the three core texts as well as a selection of module readings in formulating your own independent argument. There is no hard and fast rule concerning number of additional readings but you will probably want to use in the region of 4-6 additional readings (more would be welcome, if used appropriately rather just to make up the numbers!). You may use a number of non-module texts as long as these are relevant and demonstrate your ability to go beyond prescribed texts. Don’t be afraid to be creative in your answers!
For each of the questions you may find it helpful to pick a particular case study, or two or three examples to anchor your argument. Try to be as specific as possible. Depth and rigour of analysis is always better than broad (sometimes overly descriptive) survey-style essays.
While you are strongly advised to focus your answer on the set readings on this module (the three books plus readings in “Themed Bibliography” on QM+), you are also encouraged to carry out your own independent research into your chosen topic. You should make sure you use only academic sources (such as academic journal articles and recently-published, scholarly books) and quality newspapers and magazines (such as the Financial Times, the Guardian, the New York Times, The Economist and The New Statesman).
